The U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) released the Bridging the Gap for New Americans final report in early summer 2024. The report is the result of federal legislation passed in 2022 that required DOL to conduct a “study of the factors affecting employment opportunities for immigrants and refugees with professional credentials obtained in foreign countries.”
World Education Services and partners across the U.S., who pushed for the bill’s passage and informed its implementation, are gratified to see the report’s release. Our response to its findings—“Amplifying the Impact: Bridging the Gap for New Americans”—offers policy recommendations to the DOL and other U.S. government agencies. These recommendations build on vital information in the DOL’s report and draw upon existing best practices in states. WES offers these recommendations to our federal partners as part of our shared commitment to helping create a resilient and healthy economy that provides mutual benefit for individual New Americans and whole communities alike.
