Geopolitical, economic, and educational factors happening around the world can dramatically or subtly impact student and scholar mobility and campus internationalization efforts. This webinar will discuss major developments worldwide impacting international education, including Brexit and governmental change in the UK; political issues in Turkey and Brazil; ongoing conflict in the Middle East; and the rise of Asian countries, such as China and Malaysia, as study destinations. There will be discussion of the possible impacts of these events and what recruiters and educators should keep an eye on.

  • Political, economic, and social trends worldwide and their impacts on international education and student mobility
  • The rise of Asia as a study destination
  • Political turmoil in various countries and impacts on international education

Paul conducts market research on international higher education trends and student mobility. He earned a master's degree in public and international affairs from the University of Ottawa in Ontario, Canada, and a bachelor’s degree in legal studies and philosophy from the University of California, Santa Cruz.

Bryce Loo, Research Associate
Bryce earned a master’s degree in international education development from Teachers College, Columbia University, and a bachelor’s degree in history from California State University, Bakersfield. Bryce has published several research articles for WES and presented WES’ research on emerging markets at NAFSA Region X in 2015.
