Conflicts such as the civil war in Syria result in millions of refugees and displaced people, who often find themselves in new countries where their educational and professional backgrounds are not easily recognized. Canada and the United States are among the major host countries of refugees and are planning to take in larger numbers in the coming years.
This webinar will give a brief overview of the Syrian education system, the refugee crisis, and discuss issues surrounding credential assessment for refugees with limited documentation. We will also cover assessment practices from a range of countries and describe WES methodology for assessing credentials held by refugees. These practices will hopefully aid institutions in their efforts to assist refugee applicants.
Gain Insight Into:
- Syrian refugee crisis and what’s being done to help
- Overview of the education system in Syria
- WES assessment method of refugee academic documents from Syria and potential challenges
- How the educational community (e.g., academic institutions, licensing boards, school districts) can assist in the assessment process
